Daddy Daycare

Daddy Daycare opens tomorrow. Our normal daycare provider is going to China for three weeks. Honestly, it's fair. She almost never takes any time off. None of this teacher training thing and other crap that make most parents scramble five times a year. She's been pretty cool that way. So she's getting a well earned break. The downside is that I'm using bonding leave time to spend a couple weeks at home with the kids.

When the first one was tiny, I spent a month at home. I thought that I was getting a sabatical. I'd be able to write or do other stuff. None of that happened. It was just hanging out with the kid in my arms for a month. So this time I have no delusions of doing anything other than servicing two little monsters. It'd be nice to think that they will one day appreciate it.

This is a poem from "This Lovely Life: a Memoir of Premature Motherhood" by Vicki Forman

Ah, lovely life

Come stay yet a while with me
I am a beggar for your errant charms,
although I know your sorrows many be

I try to hold you prisoner in my arms
I'll ever dread to see you go away

Yet you are fickle as the
restless sea

Your trials are heavy
yet come what may
The thrill of you is ever there
for me.
